education

–––I am curious by nature. I want to learn as much as I possibly can, so I prioritize time for discovery. I allow research to drive the storytelling process.

  • My undergraduate degree fortified my reverence for language, and equipped me with a deep understanding of power and privilege.
  • My  graduate degree gave me tangible research methods, outreach strategies and ethical tools for co-creating narratives with multicultural audiences.

Bachlors of Art in Rhetoric Studies

WHITMAN COLLEGE, WALLA WALLA, WA

MAJOR IN RHETORIC STUDIES

The study of rhetoric analyzes language and symbolic action to understand how humans construct meaning and address communal concerns. I learned to deconstruct cultural artifacts (such as speech, text, image, film, performance, and design) in order to navigate power dynamics and transform narratives for social change.

Adviser: Dr. Heather A. Hayes

Honors Thesis: The Power of Presence: Marina Abramovic’s The Artist is Present (2010) as an Invitation to Dwell in Public Feeling

Theory of Work: Rhetorical affect theory argues that emotions are not just personal feelings but also socially and culturally constructed experiences. Emotions are influenced by societal norms, values, and power structures. Analyzing how emotions are strategically employed in persuasive discourse helps us understand how social justice movements and initiatives gain traction and achieve goals.

Foundational Coursework:
  • Rhetoric and Public Culture
  • Roots of Rhetoric
  • Rhetorical Criticism & Theory

Special Topics:
  • Rhetorical Bodies
  • Rhetoric of Hip Hop
  • Rhetoric, Race and Film
  • Images of Women in Film
  • Rhetoric and Affect

MINOR IN STUDIO ART

The study of studio art facilitates the interpretation of ideas through creation and expression within a wide range of visual and conceptual art forms. I explored art as art as an embodied practice that negotiates self-knowledge through the play of symbols and process of object making.

Adviser: Prof. Daniel Forbes

Final Project: (Re)inscribe: Exploring Identity Fragmentation through Cardboard Reconstruction
